June Note from Pastor Jon
As we enter into the month of June, we can look back at the last month and see a number of significant things that happened in the life of the church. A few weeks ago the Deacons recognized the 50 year members, a wonderful time enjoyed by all. We celebrated Pentecost, had a PW brunch and a Mother’s Day brunch, and we celebrated the end of the Flamingo Flocking Phenomenon of ‘08.
In the realm of Christian Education, we recognized teachers, Sunday School has stopped meeting, and we recognized Graduating Seniors on May 18th.
While I think it is wonderful to recognize all of these things, I think we also need to be wary of falling into the trap of thinking that we can coast for the summer in our devotions, Bible Studies, prayer times, church attendance and other ways that we connect with God and others in the church. Our reason to worship the Lord doesn’t ebb and flow with the seasons, it should be a constant need and desire within us to lift up praises to our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.
My challenge for you as you make your summer plans (and for you graduates) is to keep Jesus Chriust as a vital part of your lives this summer. If you are traveling, find a church to attend on Sunday morning. If you are planning to go away to college, the first thing to do when you arrive is start checking out the churches that are either near your campus or which offer transportation on Sunday mornings. It is never a good time to take a break from God, we always are in constant need of His presence and his sustaining love for us!
