Who Do We Think We Are?
Near the end of May, our congregation had a wonderful opportunity to participate in the Gallup ME25 survey concerning the overall status of our Church. I would like to thank each of you who took the opportunity to provide feedback and information through this survey. We have exceeded Gallup’s minimum threshold needed for the data to be valid, and now are beginning to look at the results, and few if any are surprises. I will go into more detail with the results in next month’s newsletter, after I have been to my next Doctor of Ministry class, which is all about this survey and how we can view the data we find from it.
I can say one thing for certain, we do have a very obvious area in which our survey data takes a dip, and that has to do with the status of Spiritual Development in our church. Some call this Spiritual Growth, others call this Spirituality, and others refer to it as Discipleship, but the end desire is the same regardless: A closer walk with our Lord.
The Spiritual Growth Committee, as well as your Session, your Staff, and your Deacons, recognize that this is an area in which we can, and need to, improve. At our June 10th joint Session and Deacons meeting, the results of the Gallup ME25 were distributed to Elders and Deacons, and discussion ensured concerning what, if any, concerns were raised. The Session and Deacons unanimously supported the idea that we must begin to critically look at, and act upon, the spiritual growth needs of the church.
The end result of all this is that we will be seeking to provide more spiritual growth opportunities throughout the church, ranging from Bible Studies, Small Group opportunities, significant devotion and prayer time at committee meetings, personal interest in one another’s spiritual growth, as well as the sharing of some of our own stories of spiritual growth. We begin this endeavor with a 3 part sermon series on June 27th, July 4th and July 11th, on Spiritual Growth and Discipleship. I invite you to come and learn just how easy it is to draw nearer to your Lord on a daily basis!
In Him,
Pastor Jon
