FPC Helps with 5.8K CASA Run
On July 16, youth and adults from First Presbyterian Church helped with Midtown Crossing’s first annual 5.8K CASA Run. The 5.8 K comes from the height of Mount Kilimanjaro. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. This group helps youngsters who are in foster homes. People working through CASA helps protect a child’s fundamental human rights.
We helped in three areas of the run – one being the halfway point water station. The day was cloudy, but as July was warm and humid, glasses of water were greatly appreciated. Secondly, at the finish line, we had a tent with ice cold water bottles. Thirdly, our youth held signs to encourage the runners as they trudged up Farnam Street and also made the corner turn on the return route at 32nd and Farnam Streets. At least 350 people participated in this cause. The majority of the people ran, but there was also a walking race as well. A sense of accomplishment was had by all, and we were pleased to be a part of this run. Join us next year as volunteers. Watch the website for updates.
