Easter People
Did you know that Easter is more than just one day, but rather an entire season in the church? Eastertide, or the Easter season, is the 50-day period of time starting on Easter Sunday and ending on Pentecost Sunday. Eastertide reminds us of the disciples’ lives as they waited for the sign to go forth and share the message. The disciples waited for 50 days until the day of Pentecost before they left the city with the joy of Jesus Christ.
After Jesus rose from the grave, He appeared to many of the believers. We read in Luke 24:49 that Jesus cautioned them to remain within Jerusalem until He sent them the gift of the Holy Spirit, which would clothe the believers with power from on high. This power came on Pentecost Sunday, and after receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, the disciples went into the world and began to share and witness to the power of Jesus Christ. Can you imagine how excited they were as they waited?
We are sort of like those believers. We know of the resurrection, and we are waiting for Jesus’ promised return. As such, we are to be Easter people, living as redeemed and forgiven people, awaiting the return of our Savior.
Are you an Easter person? How is your life any different from someone who only saw April 1, 2018 as April Fool’s Day? How is your life different from someone who did not celebrate Christ’s victory over death and sin at the beginning of this month? How are you living between Christ’s resurrection and His return? Are you living according to God’s call in your life?
God calls us to be different than those who do not believe.
God calls us to live in hope of the resurrection.
God calls us to live in the power of the Holy Spirit.
God calls us to live in confidence of our salvation, assured through Jesus Christ.
We are called to be Easter People!
Alleluia, He is Risen! He is Risen indeed!
In Him,
Pastor Jon
