Adult Discipleship – Together in Advent
Together in Advent
Can it possibly be Advent already? It seems like we just finished packing away the Christmas decorations in preparation for a new year. Time does seem to fly, more quickly every year, and once again, the whirlwind of activities and preparations that lead to Christmas have begun. If we’re not careful, we will rush quickly through another Advent, hardly stopping to take a breath and wonder at the good news of Emmanuel, “God with us.”
This Advent we have a wonderful opportunity to slow down and be together in Advent:
Worship Together:
We have two special Sunday morning worship services during Advent as we are lead by the choir, Dec 10, and led by the children, Dec 17.
Our Blue Christmas service, Dec 16, is another opportunity to worship for those that struggle during the holiday season.
Midweek @ Midtown this Advent we will have a special time of worship designed specifically for those who long to slow down and sink into the Advent season. We will journey together through this season at a mindful pace. Hear the words of the prophet Isaiah, listen as the angel showers Mary with an unbelievable pronouncement, watch as Mary and Elizabeth and their unborn sons greet one another in joy, and soar along with Mary as she lifts her heart in praise to God.
Grow Together:
Sunday Morning: Sunday classes continue for all ages at 9:000am.
Advent Small Groups are being offered as an opportunity to shed some light on the Christmas story and experience it in a new way.
Life Together:
Lots of opportunities to share life together this advent. The PW luncheon, Dec 2; the Advent Workshop on Dec 3; the Wassail Party on Dec 17.
Serve together:
Volunteer to help in the Hand – up Food Pantry.
Bake cookies for the PW cookie round – up Dec 10. Then volunteer to deliver one of the cookie boxes to someone on the list!
Pray together:
Become a part of our Prayer team – either by email or phone tree – and lift up others in prayer.
I hope you will join me this Advent season as we pause on the road to Bethlehem, not rushing headlong down that road with Christmas as the goal. May we rather step thoughtfully and prayerfully as together, like Mary, we ponder all these wonderful things in our hearts.
Blessings, Pastor Jenni
But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.
