Kirkin’ O’ the Tartan Worship Service

January 29, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 12:15 pm

First Presbyterian Church will celebrate its Scottish heritage on Sunday, January 29 at 10:30 a.m. This celebration will include Scottish music, a bagpipe, banners, a beadle, Scottish attire and following the worship service, a Ceilidh (a Scottish happening) with shortbread and the Scottish Country Dancers.  A beadle, according to the New Oxford American Dictionary, is a ceremonial Scottish officer of the church who assists the minister.  In our church, he/she has the honor of carrying in their family Bible which will be used during the service.  If you attend this worship service you may also have the opportunity, if you want, to do some Scottish dancing in our fellowship hall.  It is a service of celebration and remembrance.

All Scots are asked to bring a piece of their clan tartan to be blessed. You may also bring something that is important to you or your family to be blessed as well.  Whatever your heritage, however, everyone is encouraged to wear something plaid, but it is not required. Also bring your Scottish friends! You are invited to come to church on January 29, and be Scottish, even if you aren’t, for 90 minutes.  Please join us!
